Dentures Q & A

Why should I get dentures?

If you’re missing some or all of the teeth, dentures are an excellent tool for restoring your oral health and improving your quality of life. Dentures make it much easier to speak and improve your ability to properly chew food. This aids in digestion and brings about other health benefits.

Dentures also restore your smile, which is a key component of your appearance and personality. Having a beautiful smile that you’re proud to share with the world can improve your confidence, boost your self-esteem, and help you enjoy social situations more.

What different types of dentures do you offer?

Gaston and Murrell Family Dentistry offers a few different types of dentures, each of which addresses different needs and preferences. Denture options include:

Traditional full dentures

Traditional full dentures replace all of the teeth in one or both of your dental arches. They’re suitable when you don’t have any teeth left or are planning on extracting your remaining teeth.

These dentures are composed of a gum-colored base that holds artificial teeth in place, usually made from porcelain or composite resin. Traditional full dentures sit on top of your gums and secure to your mouth with either adhesive or a suction mechanism.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures replace all of the teeth in either one or both of your arches, like traditional full dentures, but they’re held in place by dental implants.

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots embedded in your jawbone, where they fuse with your bone tissue. The implants provide a strong and sturdy foundation for your dentures, making them feel more comfortable and natural.

Partial dentures

If you’re missing a few teeth or have a gap between teeth that’s too wide to correct with a dental bridge, your dentist might recommend partial dentures. Partial dentures are a removable device that fills a gap in your smile with artificial teeth. They attach with either metal clasps or a gum-colored base like traditional full dentures.

With partial dentures, however, the base has holes where you still have natural teeth, which enables your natural teeth and artificial teeth to work side-by-side.

How do dentures feel?

Dentures might feel slightly uncomfortable at first, but that’s because your mouth needs time to adjust. Once the muscles in your face and mouth learn how to use your new dentures, they’ll feel great and improve your overall oral functioning.

The team at Gaston and Murrell Family Dentistry is highly skilled in designing a perfect fit for your dentures, so you can rest assured that you’ll regain much of your oral functioning and maintain the natural muscle tone in your face and jaw.
